Meet: The La Crosse Fire Department
The La Crosse Fire Department believes in United Way because Fire Department members see firsthand how the effects of unexpected events devastate families. “Whether it is a fire, emergency medical call, vehicle accident, or family issue such as children playing with fire; we provide assistance to individuals as well as family members and friends who may be involved.” Not all people cope with these unexpected events equally; as part of the La Crosse Fire Department’s continual quality care, they call upon United Way agencies to assist individuals and families to make sure that their loved ones receive the support and care that is needed.
The Fire Department routinely uses United Way organizations. Responding to thousands of calls each year, the Fire Department is the bridge that links the patients and families of those we serve and the United Way agencies that provide the support and follow up assistance these individuals and families need to return their life to normal. These United Way organizations are vital to the health of our community.
“Serious events only happen to the other person”. Many people don’t realize the value of United Way or its partner agencies until their assistance is needed. United Way and their partner agencies maintain and improve quality of life in the La Crosse area and make opportunities available to everyone. Without United Way and immense donors like the Fire Department and our partner agencies many individuals would not have the opportunity to live full and productive lives or takes advantage of the opportunities that the Coulee Region can provide.
The La Crosse Fire Department has responded to over 4,000 calls for assistance and played a vital role in educating our children by providing thousands of hours of fire and injury prevention open houses, school programs, and public education programs for business and industries.
As a community, we can continue to look forward to high quality and reliable emergency services. The La Crosse Fire Department places a high emphasis on fire and injury prevention through education. The department’s basic mission is to “prevent harm and be nice”.
