Meet Marquis
Marquis is 12 years old boy. He is an athletic kid always ready for his next adventure. This Onalaska Middle School 7th Grader is a recipient of Big Brothers Big Sisters. United Way is proud to have served Marquis. Marquis thank you for sharing your story!
Two years ago Marquis began his journey with Big Brothers Big Sisters. "He needed a male role model." -Brenda Linzmeier (Marquis's mother) explained. "I saw a change in him immediately."
Marquis was paired with Bob Haines. These two are the greatest duo you will ever see. Energy, laughter, and competition are just a few of the traits you will notice when Bob and Marquis are together.
'Big Brother' Bob will hang out with Marquis at least two times a week. When asked what Marquis's favorite memory was of his time with Bob he replied, "Hunting and fishing. I haven't caught anything yet, but last year Bob got the biggest buck of his life and I was there to see it."
I asked Marquis's mother Brenda what she saw as the biggest change in her son since his involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters began, she replied, "He finally has learned that you can trust people. There are people in this world that will show up when they say they will show up. Marquis finally feels like he matters."
Big Brothers Big Sisters isn't just about positive role models and fun activities. This agency gives children an opportunity to find worth and value inside themselves that otherwise may go unnoticed.
