Success Stories - Live United
MEET ELLA
Little Ella Hooverson (right) was a beautiful baby, but Mary Hooverson (mother) could tell that there was something wrong. At 12 months Ella was not developing like other children her age. Slouching, squinting, and low appetite were just a few of the symptoms Ella faced each day. Doctors found nothing wrong with Ella, so the Hooverson Family hoped things would get better.
A few months later, however things got worse. Ella was rushed to the hospital for seizers. Doctors found a brain tumor. Devastated, Mary Hooverson began to look for answers on how to save her baby. Brain surgery was their only hope. The surgery was a success but little Ella had a long road to recover.
Coulee Children's Center stepped in. Because of United Way dollars, Ella was able to receive in home care. Coulee Children's Center's counselors and therapists came to the Hooverson home weekly to help Ella with her recovery. I asked Mary Hooverson what she would have done without Coulee Children's Center. "I can't imagine what we would have done. Everyone was so great with Ella, I just can't say enough about them."
As of today, Ella has made a full recovery. She likes to play dress up and loves playing outside wither her sister. United Way would like to thank the Hooverson's for sharing their story. Congratulations Ella!
