Day of Caring
Every year in mid-July, Great Rivers United Way hosts an event called Day of Caring. Day of Caring, our version of United Way Worldwide’s national “Day of Action,” has been held for local Pacesetter Companies since 1995. Pacesetter Companies, so named because they “set the pace” for the community-wide campaign that kicks off in the fall, are corporate partners that agree to run their United Way employee campaigns early.
Day of Caring consists of a picnic lunch served by staff from Great Rivers United Way and its partner programs. Great Rivers United Way’s Board President and Executive Director, as well as the year’s Campaign Co-Chairs address the crowd, sharing news about the upcoming campaign and thanking Pacesetters for their support.
After lunch, or in some cases before if a morning opportunity is available, Pacesetter employees volunteer in support of United Way-funded programs. Activities range from landscaping to cleaning to client interaction. Registration for the event is done via United Way’s volunteer website, Ugetconnected, which is a great source for giving back all year long.
